The Border Travellers should arrive at the border in advance of closing times. Occasionally the opening hours are extended during the holiday season to accommodate extra traffic but this is not a rule. Visitors to Mozambique may import the following goods for personal use, free of duty and tax. 400 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos or 50 cigars or 250gm tobacco and 1L spirits and 2.25L wine and 50ml perfume or 250ml toilet water . Other goods: to the value of US$200. NB those under 18 years of age are not permitted to import tobacco products or alcoholic drinks. Prohibited Items : Narcotics, pornography. Some items eg. Firearms need a special licence Foreign currency in excess of US$5000 or the equivalent in cash or travellers cheques, must be declared at Customs. Article 42 of the new Tariff Code states: Authority is given for artefacts transported by travellers in quantities considered reasonable as souvenirs and not for commercial purposes to enter or leave the customs territory without any formality.
